Olivier Mandel, managing partner du Cabinet d’avocats Mandel & Associés, a eu la chance de participer, du 24 au 27 avril 2024, au dernier Congrès de l’Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA), qui s’est tenu à Tokyo, au Japon.
L’IPBA est une association internationale d’avocats, créée en 1991, et qui réunit des avocats d’affaires travaillant ou ayant un fort intérêt pour la zone Asie-Pacifique.
Ce Congrès a réuni, dans une ambiance tout à la fois chaleureuse et studieuse, plus de 1400 avocats d’affaires venus des quatre coins du monde, notamment du Japon, de Chine, de Singapour, de Corée du Sud, des Etats-Unis, mais aussi de France ou du Royaume-Uni.
Notre Cabinet d’avocats travaillant depuis des décennies avec le Japon, la Corée du Sud et la Chine, nous nous devions d’être présents sur place, afin notamment d’y retrouver ou d’y rencontrer des confrères issus de ces trois pays.
Olivier Mandel, qui pratique depuis plus de vingt ans le droit de la propriété intellectuelle, a eu le privilège d’être nommé, à l’occasion de ce Congrès, Vice-Président du Comité Propriété Intellectuelle de l’IPBA.
Pendant les 2 ans de son mandat, Olivier Mandel aura à cœur, avec le nouveau Président dudit comité, Monsieur Jack Shaw, avocat californien du cabinet Procopio, de faire en sorte que le droit de la propriété intellectuelle occupe une place prépondérante parmi les nombreuses thématiques juridiques qui seront abordées lors des prochains congrès annuels de l’IPBA.
Enfin, Olivier Mandel est fier d’avoir pu intervenir comme speaker lors de la Session Propriété Intellectuelle du Congrès de l’IPBA de Tokyo.
Au cours de cette session intitulée « International IP Protection-Challenges in New Era », qui s’est tenue le 26 avril 2024 et à laquelle une quarantaine d’avocats ont participé, Olivier Mandel a traité du régime juridique de la marque de l’Union européenne.
Ce fut une session passionnante et qui a rencontré un vif succès, en raison notamment du charisme de son modérateur (Lidong Pan, managing partner du cabinet d’avocats chinois Reiz Law Firm) et de la qualité des autres intervenants (Jack Shaw, du cabinet d’avocats californien Procopio, Muhammad Farrukh Irfan Khan, du cabinet d’avocats dubaïote United Trademark & Patent Services, Ichiro Fujimoto, du cabinet d’avocats japonais Creativity & Insight Legal Professionals Corp. et enfin Sam Wong, qui est notamment Director of the Young Lawyers Committee of All-China Lawyers Association et Vice President of Guangzhou Law Society).
Finalement, notre Cabinet a profité de ce voyage d’affaires à Tokyo pour être un des sponsors de la superbe soirée « European Night », qui a été organisée sur place, le 25 avril, par le prestigieux cabinet d’avocats japonais Kitahama Partners.
Olivier Mandel, managing partner of the Mandel & Associés law firm, had the chance to participate, from April 24 to 27, 2024, in the last Congress of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA), which was held in Tokyo, in Japan.
The IPBA is an international association of business and commercial lawyers who live in, or otherwise have a strong interest in, the Asia-Pacific Region. It was established in April 1991 and since that date, it has grown to become the preeminent legal association in this region of the world. It has currently over 1,500 members from over 65 jurisdictions worldwide.
The Tokyo Congress of the IPBA brought together, in an atmosphere that was both warm and studious, more than 1,400 business lawyers from all over the world, notably Japan, China, Singapore, South Korea, the United States, but also from France or the United Kingdom.
As our law firm has been working for decades with Japan, South Korea and China, we had to be present on site, in particular to re-connect or to meet lawyers from these three countries.
Olivier Mandel, who has been practicing intellectual property law for more than twenty years, had the privilege of being appointed, on the occasion of this Congress, Vice-Chair of the Intellectual Property Committee of the IPBA.
During the 2 years of his term, Olivier Mandel will be keen, with the new Chair of the said committee, Mr. Jack Shaw, Californian lawyer from the Procopio firm, to ensure that intellectual property law occupies a preponderant place among the many legal themes discussed at each IPBA Annual Congress.
Finally, Olivier Mandel is proud to have been able to intervene as a speaker during the Intellectual Property Session of the IPBA Congress.
During this session entitled “International IP Protection-Challenges in New Era”, which was held on April 26, 2024 and which gathered approximately forty lawyers, Olivier Mandel dealt with the legal regime of the European Union trademark.
It was an exciting session which met with great success, notably due to the charisma of its moderator (Lidong Pan, managing partner of the Chinese law firm Reiz Law Firm) and the quality of the other speakers (Jack Shaw, from the Californian law firm Procopio, Muhammad Farrukh Irfan Khan, from the Dubai law firm United Trademark & Patent Services, Ichiro Fujimoto, from the Japanese law firm Creativity & Insight Legal Professionals Corp. and finally Sam Wong, who is notably Director of the Young Lawyers Committee of All-China Lawyers Association and Vice President of Guangzhou Law Society).
Finally, our Firm took advantage of this business trip to Tokyo to be one of the sponsors of the amazing “European Night” side event, which was organized there on April 25 by the prestigious Japanese law firm Kitahama Partners.
